Goran Ivanovic's 3 Macedonian Blues Published by Henry Lemoine Editions
Goran Ivanovic's 3 macedonian blues has been recently released by
Henry Lemoine Editions in the
Collection Sergio Assad. These wonderful pieces represent the Balkan roots of the composer.
"After escaping the war Yugoslavia when I was 12, my family and I settled in Austria where I was trained in classical guitar. Removed from my culture, exploring colorful ethnic Balkan and gypsy music I had heard as a child became a way of maintaining a sence of my roots. Since moving to Chicago in the late 90's, Jazz and Blues have added new dimensions to my musical language. In my compositions, I interwave these musical genres to reflect my journey through different cultures.
These three pieces depict my own interpretation of the traditional folk dances of Macedonia.
The first piece,
Ethno dance, with its changing meters, depicts the dances of Macedonian parties and weddings.
The second is a soulful
Lament embelished by Blues Riffs and Jazz harmonies.
The third,
Kalajdizisko Oro, with its asymetric rhythms of the Balkan Peninsula, is based on a traditional melody.
