COMPETITION:
NO Age Requirements
NO Required Pieces and
OVER $5,000 TOTAL PRIZE MONEY AND GIFTS

The 3rd annual St. Joseph International Guitar Festival and Competition (St. Joseph Missouri, USA) sponsored by the Department of Music of Missouri Western State College will run from May 25-29, 2005.

Following last year's tremendous success which included performers, presenters and students from the US, Europe and the Far East, this year's concerts will feature classical guitar, guitar & piano duo, flamenco guitar and alternative electric guitar concerts as well as extensive masterclasses and additional classes such as "Cooking for Musicians," "Yoga for Musicians," etc.

Complimentary housing is available for auditors and performers. In addition to concerts, classes and jam sessions throughout St. Joseph and additional outreach concerts throughout the area, this year's festival will again feature an international competition with thousands of dollars prize money, gifts and an invitation to the first prize winner for a featured, paid concert in the 2006 festival. THE COMPETITION HAS NO REQUIRED PIECES AND NO AGE LIMIT.

LAST YEAR'S COMPETITION WINNERS WERE:

1st Prize: Isaac Bustos (Nicaragua)
2nd Prize: Munhk-Orgil Turbold (Mongolia)
3rd Prize: Nenad Savic (Serbia)

The final round of the competition will be open to the public and as opposed to most competitions where only the jury votes, the audience in the final round of the competition will have ballots (18 years and older) and their votes will be calculated into one additional vote for ranking the final three competitors. We strongly feel that this gives a more realistic approach to competitions that are often so slanted toward the "guitar world" that the general audience, management and record companies are left behind.
